July 23-25:
Travelers finish season with another 1st Place Trophy in Lombard Tournament

The Travelers put themselves in a hole with a first game loss to
Oaklawn, but came back with slaughter-rule victories over the Mt.
Prospect Renegades and Lagrange to advance to the championship round.
The Travs then defeated Romeoville 4-3 with 3 runs in the bottom of
the sixth in an exciting finish to advance to the Championship Game
vs. Oaklawn. The Travs extracted revenge with another slaughter rule
14-2 victory to win the Lombard Tournament Championship.
Game 1: Westside Warriors (Oak Lawn) 13, Travelers 3
Travs play poorly, commit 6 errors and walk 9 and allow 8 unearned
runs in opening game loss.
Game 2: Travelers 24, Mt. Prospect Renegades 1
Every player in the lineup gets at least 2 hits in a romp. Ben Perkins
drives in 5 runs, Brian Wilhite 4.Kevin ZImmer gets 2 triples and
drives in 3.
Game 3: Travelers 25,
Lagrange 2
The Travs bang out another 22 hits. Matt WIsniewski and Kevin ZImmer
each get 3 hits and 3 RBI. Brian Wilhite also get 3 hits. Brian Roy,
Ben Perkins and Mitch Dinterman each drive in 3.
Semi-Final Game: Travelers 4, Romeoville Royals 3
Excellent pitching from Dave Schalla, Jack Anderson and Zack
Kolakowski held the Royals in check. Down 3-1 in the last of the
sixth, the Travs rallied with key hits by Kevin ZImmer and Schalla to
set up a game-winning walk off double by Kyle Chisholm as Danny Haduch
scored to win the game.
Championship Game: Travelers 14, Westside Warriors (Oak Lawn) 2
It was all Travelers as they pounded seven extra base hits in the
victory. Nick Roy keyed the attack with a 2-run homer in the first to
left center over the 210-foot sign. Brian Wilhite hit 2 ground rule
doubles that bounced over the fence. Kyle Chisholm added two hits, as
did Kevin Zimmer and Lee Breitzman to lead a balanced 14 hit attack.

each. Dave Schalla drove in 3 runs, Lee Bretizman and Nick Roy (6 for
his last 10) each had two RBI. Combining for the shutout were Zack

Six Travelers errors let in 4 unearned runs in the Travs 2nd loss of
the year. Despite being down 8-4 in the bottom of the sixth, the Travs
came back and had the tying run on 3rd when the last out was made.
Zack Kolakowski threw 2 shout innings and Danny Haduch had the
defensive great play of the game in CF. Mitch Dinterman, and Nick Roy
had 2 hits apiece in a 13-hit attack. Haduch had 2 RBI. |

Tourney: Travelers go undefeated to win share of championship

The
Travelers won their first three games before the rains came and washed
out the championship round on Memorial Day. Three other teams also
finished undefeated to share 1st Place honors.
Victories came over the Waycinden Warriors 14-7, Lake in The Hills
Thunder 18-3 and the Downers Grove Longshots 7-4.
The Travs outscored their
opponents 39-14, while pitching held opponents to only 12 hits in 18
innings. The Travs offense was sparked by Jack Andersen, who went
7-for-10 including a string of 6 straight hits, Jack homered and had 6
RBI as well. Brian wilhite went 4-for9 with 7 RBI, while Matt
Wisniewski. went 4-for-7 with 4 walks and 7 runs scored. Nick Roy went
4-for-8.
On the mound Dave Schalla picked up 2 wins with 6 K's in 4 innings.
Andersen threw 3 shutout frames with 7 whiffs while WIsniewski and Lee
Breitzman each threw 2 shutout innings. |

Travs pitching held the highly regarded Blaze to only 4 hits and 2 walks in
Glenview on a beautiful afternoon for baseball. It was all about pitching,
defense and timely hitting. Zack K. picked up the win, while Jack A.pitched
the last 2 innings to pick up the save. Lee B. and Dave S. also cooled off
the Blaze on the mound. The Travs defense was solid comiitting only one
miscue. Matt W. picked up 2 RBIs at the plate. |

The Travelers let a leaky defense do the
work for the Cobras, committing 5 errors and allowing 5 unearned runs. The
Travs offense was alive with Zack K. hitting a bases clearing triple in the
4th and Kevin Z. driving home 2 runs with a hit and a sac fly. |
